"Tourist" is a short story about old people proving that sunshine and human smile remain unchanged in time. The script by Mateusz Subieta won Nisi Masa, a European Short Film Script Contest in 2006. The short is also Subieta’s directing debut. There are even more debuts in case of this film - Paweł Tybora's as a cameraman and Paweł Krawczyk's as a camera operator, not to mention that of the RED camera in the hands of CG-artists from the Odeon Film Studio.
Impoverished pensioners, living in dull and gloomy city of blocks cannot afford summer vacations. Despite this sad reality they are desperate and manage having great holidays on a sandy beach and lots of sunshine. Memorable holidays from a distant past come alive once again. With a small difference - now, the beach is in the middle of the city and is man made. The whole story is presented from two points of view: that of a grandson who sees nothing except for the overwhelming dullness and monotony of the gray reality, and that of the grandfather who perceives everything as bursting with magic. Fantasy blends with reality and the spontaneous joy of the old people clashes against the rational attitude of a young boy.
The lack of dialogues is compensated for by the melancholic hit song by a Hindi star – Alisha Chinai.
'Tourist' cast consists of acclaimed Polish actors: Stanisław Brudny, Anna Milewska, Jan Mayzel, Henryka Jędrzejewska, Helena Norowicz and Marian Pysznik.
This is a story of a bunch of old people living in a post-communist district going back to happy moments they shared in the past. It is a film on travel in memories.
